Professional bio

Ms Bushra Thajudeen is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Royal Gwent Hospital, Aneurin Bevan Health Board. She is the clinical lead for cornea and also specialises in complex cataract surgery and anterior segment reconstruction. 

Ms Thajudeen graduated from medical college, Trivandrum, India and did further post graduate training in Ophthalmology at the Regional institute of Ophthalmology, Trivandrum. She then moved to UK, where she did her Ophthalmology training in Wales deanery. On completion of training, she did Fellowship in glaucoma at Bristol Eye Hospital followed by Fellowship in cornea and anterior segment surgery under the world renowned Prof H S Dua and his team at the Queens medical centre, Nottingham. 

Ms Thajudeen started as Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in cornea and glaucoma at Royal Gwent Hospital in 2020. She is currently the cornea lead for the ABUHB. 
She set up the corneal cross linking service in Royal Gwent Hospital and offers this treatment to young keratoconic patients in ABUHB and also those referred from nearby health boards.

Ms Thajudeen's areas of surgical expertise include cataract surgery, surgical correction of astigmatism, anterior segment reconstruction, scleral fixated and Iris fixated intra ocular lenses, full thickness and lamellar corneal grafts for corneal scars and corneal dystrophies, limbal stem cell transplants, glaucoma surgeries including  trabeculectomy and glaucoma drainage device implantation, various types of conjunctival flaps and other treatments for ocular surface pathologies.

Ms Thajudeen is also an honorary senior lecturer in Cardiff university and is a course tutor in anterior segment module of Cardiff university.

Outside work, Ms Thajudeen is a keen artist and enjoys oil painting and palette knife painting and was involved in many charity events to auction her paintings to raise money for the charity.
