Professional bio

Mr Rafik Girgis is an experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist, specialising in cataract surgery and general ophthalmology. He trained at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, where his training included two fellowships in cataract and primary care, before working there for a year as a Consultant. 

He is an expert in the field of premium lenses and during the consultation will guide you in terms of which implant is the most suitable one for your circumstances.

Rafik Girgis has completed over 10,000 cataract surgeries and enjoy teaching the juniors how to be an efficient, safe cataract surgeon. 

Between April 2011 and November 2017, Mr Girgis provided the Primary Care Service at Bristol Eye Hospital.

He has recently completed the Ulster University Cataract and Refractive Surgery Course, PgDip with Distinction. The course takes around nine months to study and complete, from October 18 - June 19. It includes over 30 hours of fully narrated lectures, discussions and testing forums and self-assessment tests. The programme of the course has been designed in collaboration with The Royal College of Ophthalmologist to give the candidates a great depth in the refractive field including the premium lens of cataract surgery.

  • Cataract surgery and artificial lens implant including premium implants.
  • Refractive lens exchange surgery, clear lens extraction.
  • Laser eye treatment, YAG laser capsulotomy and iridotomy.
  • Eyelid cyst removal.
  • Excision lesion of the eyelid.
  • Astigmatism assessment and treatment.
  • Short-sightedness, myopia.
  • Blepharitis.
  • Dry eye syndrome.
  • Glaucoma.
