Professional bio

I am a Consultant Urological Surgeon at St Joseph's Hospital and in Bristol at Southmead Hospital. I am a highly experienced pelvic cancer surgeon and have specialised over many years in precise surgical techniques which improve both cancer survival and functional outcomes. These include techniques ranging from:

1) The use of the Da Vinci Robot for performing Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy,

2) High Intensity Focused Ultrasound for minimally invasive treatment of prostate cancer and

3) Precision placement of markers for optimizing the outcomes of radiotherapy for prostate cancer.

4) No scalpel technique for vasectomy.

In addition, I have been a national pioneer in minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of benign prostate disease (BPH) as an alternative to TURP. These techniques include the Urolift procedure, REZUM (steam treatment of the prostate) and Green Light Laser. All these techniques are offered, as well as traditional TURP if tablet therapy has failed or cannot be tolerated by the patient.

I am also a leader in the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction. If treatment with tablets or medical devices hasn’t proved successful, I can offer surgery using state-of-the-art penile prosthetic devices. I also treat Peyronie’s disorder, offering injection treatments in its early phases, and surgical correction if this fails.

I have 25 years of experience in the restoration of fertility using microsurgical Reversal of Vasectomy and has some of the best results nationally. In conjunction with the Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine, I will soon be offering male infertility procedures for testicular extraction of sperm in order to optimize assisted conception techniques.

I believe treatment should be tailored to patients’ lifestyles and based on a combination of scientific evidence and individual preferences.
