Fusion-guided prostate biopsies for the diagnosis of prostate cancer

In order to get the best treatment outcomes if you develop prostate cancer, it is important to have the most accurate diagnosis possible. The state of the art diagnosis currently involves  that of 'fusion biopsy' of the prostate. In this procedure minimally invasive transperineally biopsies are taken of the prostate, guided accurately by targeting areas of suspicion in the prostate. These areas are identified by fusing the images of a high quality MRI of the prostate, with the biopsy ultrasound image used for the biopsy procedure itself. Thes 'fusion images' can later be used for 'focal therapy to the prostate' at a later date if necessary.
