Job Title: Registered Nurse
Department: Advanced Diagnostics
Hours: Part-time contract (15 hours per week)
Salary: £44,823 pro rata
Responsible to: Advanced Diagnostics Clinical Lead

Job Summary
· To provide high quality, effective, individualised care to all patients.
· To assess care needs and develop, implement and evaluate them without supervision.
· Supervise student and junior staff in the department.
· To assist in leading and monitoring the performance of the Advanced Diagnostics.
· To assist Radiologists and Radiographers with clinical and non-clinical work when required.
· To assist in the ordering of stock and non-stock items, receiving and checking stock and filing of delivery notes and invoices as appropriate.
· To work cross-speciality as required by the hospital
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Responsibilities
a) Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision.
b) Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based, individualised patient care.
c) Assist and advise staff, both registered and unregistered in the delivery of patient care.
d) Maintain accurate clinical observations as per the NEWS 2 scoring system and escalate concerns where appropriate.
e) Undertake nursing procedures in advanced diagnostics delivering patient care throughout the diagnostic pathway, including recovering patients post sedation in line with the hospital policy.
f) Undertake pre-procedure visits to patients on wards to provide information to patients.
g) Ensure the safe transfer of patients from beds/chairs to x-ray tables.
h) Assist clinicians in the role of scrub nurse for interventional and invasive procedures within the Advanced Diagnostic Department.
i) Correct hand-over to ward nurse when required and ensure patients are transferred back to the ward safely.
j) Have responsibility for the correct administration and custody of medicines according to Hospitals policy, including the administration of IV medication.
k) Monitor patients progress, work towards safe and timely discharge plans and ensure barriers to discharge are identified and acted on appropriately
l) Act as the patient’s advocate.
m) Understand the policies and procedures within the department and St Joseph’s Hospital, particularly:
· Health and Safety
· Fire Safety
· CPR
· COSHH
· Infection Control (including ANTT, handling specimens and disposal of clinical waste policies)
· Radiation (IR(ME)R)
n) To assist Consultant Radiologists and Sonographers with their clinical lists within Advanced Diagnostics.
o) To assist Radiographers with the running of clinical lists within CT and MRI scanners.
p) To perform venepuncture and cannulation as required.
2. Management Responsibilities
a. To be able to manage own time and work effectively considering all departments within Advanced Diagnostics.
b. Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
c. Ensure that nursing practices comply with Hospital policies and procedures.
d. Communicate effectively at all times to improve the patient experience and maintain a harmonious working environment.
e. Co-ordinate the care given by non-registered and student nurses.
f. Promote effective liaison between all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
g. Be responsible for the accurate documentation and care of patient’s records.
h. Maintain a safe and healthy environment.
i. Assist in ensuring the availability of resources for patient care.
j. Ensure equipment is in good working order and report appropriately when defective.
k. Participate in audit and suggest any change to improve standards.
l. Demonstrate an awareness of the economical use of resources and contribute to the overall control of the departmental budget.
m. Inputting of patient data onto the Hospital CompuCare system and PACS for audit purposes.
3. Teaching and health education
a. Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested.
b. Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants, students, Radiographers and junior staff, helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.
c. Act as a role model and mentor to nursing assistants, pre-registration students and nurses undertaking supervised practice and return to nursing programmes.
4. Professional
a. To keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence-based practices. Maintain up to date resource information.
b. Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to the speciality.
c. Take responsibility for self-development through the hospital appraisal process.
d. To participate effectively at monthly team meetings.
e. To communicate effectively with the Clinical Lead of Advanced Diagnostics with relation to pertinent issues.
f. To work towards completing agreed personal development plan .
g. Conduct oneself in accordance with the NMC Code and Hospitals policies .
h. To be aware of and take appropriate action regarding cardiac arrest, fire and major incident.
i. Be aware of and adhere to Hospitals policies and procedures in particular radiation, risk assessment and analysis.
j. To undertake responsibility for tasks delegated by the Clinical Lead of Imaging and Superintendent Radiographers.
