Rate of Pay: £32,638.00 pro-rata

Experience:

• Relevant experience in treating patients within Inpatient settings.  
• You will have completed a comprehensive series of rotations to include all major specialities (Orthopaedics, general surgery, general medicine, neurology, trauma and ITU, Musculoskeletal outpatients and intermediate care at student placement level). 
• Involved in team building and engagement experience. 
• Excellent communication skills, communicating with both internal and external stakeholders. This includes patients, hospital colleagues, Consultants, senior management, GP’s, and other agencies. 
• CPD (evidenced); the ability, willingness and determination to impart skills, knowledge and training to your team and others. 
• You will also understand effective marketing and assist the team in effectively managing and controlling the budget.
• Ensure that your activity is organised daily and planned.
• Knowledge of mandatory inspection processes undertaken by HIW and other regulatory bodies and associated requirements. 
• Computer literate in terms of completing on-line reports and maintaining effective communication via letters and e-mail. 

Job Summary: 

• You will assist with the clinical responsibilities pertaining to the everyday organisation and efficient running of the physiotherapy service, including inpatient, pre-assessment and outpatient service requirements; contribute to and lead on service development initiatives to include pre and post operative assessments and treatments. 
• You will be responsible for assisting in prioritising patient referrals, allocating and organising the work of colleagues and assistant staff to meet service priorities on a daily basis. 
• You will be responsible for organising and planning your own caseload to meet service and patient priorities, sharing your time between inpatient activity and outpatient services, readjusting priorities as situations arise. 
• You will ensure the provision of a comprehensive physiotherapy service, ensuring that all treatments and interventions are of a consistently high standard, evidence informed and patient focussed. 
• You will adopt a flexible and participative approach to innovation and change and promote patient’s individuality and dignity at all times. 
• You will be required to participate in evening, weekend and bank holiday working in conjunction with meeting the service needs of the Centre and hospital. 
• You will be included in a dedicated mentoring structure and participate in a varied programme of clinical review and development; to include patient clinical reasoning, notes review, watched assessments and feedback. 

Key Responsibilities:

• You will be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care 
• You will undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations/ multi pathologies. You will use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition with intermittent support. 
• You will formulate and deliver an individual physiotherapy treatment programme based on sound knowledge of treatment skills, e.g. manual physiotherapy techniques, patient 
education, and other alternative options 
• You will formulate accurate prognoses and, using a collaborative approach, recommend best course of intervention; developing comprehensive patient centred objectives and plans. 
• You will assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
• You will complete timely and legible notes that are compliant to the ‘Minimum data set’ established by the CSP. 
• Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients to progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes. 
• You will evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes if required. 
• You will assess and manage clinical risk within own patient caseload, to include, when appropriate, manual handling. 
• Work within hospital clinical guidelines and CSP guidelines and have a good working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own and others quality of practice as appropriate. 
• To be responsible for maintaining accurate, legible and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with Chartered Society of Physiotherapy standards of practice. 
• Supervise assistants record keeping according to professional and physiotherapy standards. 
• Be responsible and competent in the safe use of all gym equipment and patient appliances and aids used on patient management. 
• You will be responsible for maintaining and developing your own competency to practice through CPD activities and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development. 
• Regularly assess and contribute to the performance assessment and appraisal of yourself and the team. 
• Maintain and develop current knowledge of evidence-based practice, developing specialist knowledge of particular conditions and patient types. 
• Contribute to and lead evidence-based projects within the service and contribute to improvements to service delivery and clinical practice. Make recommendations for change and when appropriate lead on the implementation of the changes. 
• Delegate responsibility to colleagues for managing patients with particular conditions and ensure they are responsible for providing specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment plans for these patients. 
• Undertake the measurement and evaluation of your work and current practices through the use of evidence-based practice projects, audit and outcome measures, either individually or as part of a team. 
• Be an active member of the in-service training programme by attendance at and participation in.
• Be actively involved in professional clinical groups, such as a journal club, CSP clinical interest groups, peer review and other professional development activities. 

Person Specification:

Essential:

• Qualified to a minimum degree level in Physiotherapy (BSc Physiotherapy)

• MCSP or equivalent.

• HCPC & CSP membership.

• Completion of student placements in the MSK field.

• Competence in the management of an inpatient and inpatient Physiotherapy service.

• Demonstrate an interest in research, audit and ensuring practice is evidence-based.

• Good understanding of the current challenges facing the current health economy and implications for MSK therapies.

• Good working knowledge of all areas of clinical governance.

• Excellent written and verbal communication.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Strong IT skills.

• Basic skills in the provision of manual and exercise therapy.

• High level of personal and professional credibility.

• Diplomatic and sensitive to the needs of others.

• Reliable, logical and organised.

• Physically fit and able to comply with Trust manual handling guidelines.

• Able to work at intensive levels on concentration during most of the working day.

• Ability to work within a stressful and unpredictable environment.

Desirable:

• Physiotherapy MSc.
