Professional bio

Mr Rethnam is an Orthopaedic Consultant in South Wales specialising in Hip replacement, Knee replacement including total and partial replacement, revision hip and knee replacement and complex hip and knee replacement surgery. His NHS practice is with the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board working at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Grange University Hospital and St Woolos Hospital.

Mr Rethnam offers a patient centred approach to his practice, ensuring that patients feel safe and cared for at every stage of their journey.

Completing his medical degree and Orthopaedic training at St John's National Academy of Health Sciences, Bangalore, one of the premier medical institutes in India, Mr Rethnam is now fast approaching 20 years experience in Orthopaedic and Trauma surgery. After working as an Orthopaedic consultant in India, Mr Rethnam moved to the UK where he completed Orthopaedic training in the All Wales Higher Surgical Training Programme having gained experience from most of the Orthopaedic units in Wales.

Following training in the UK, he completed a Lower Limb Arthroplasty fellowship at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane, Australia, where he gained experience in complex primary replacement surgeries, computer assisted knee replacements and revision hip and knee replacement surgeries.

Mr Rethnam has been involved in over 5000 Orthopaedic surgeries and over 1000 primary and revision joint replacement surgeries, and has vast surgical experience and maintains a high level of patient care.
