Professional bio

I am a Consultant Geriatrician at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Cardiff University. My qualifications include MBBS, MD, MRCP (UK), MSc (Ageing, Health and Disease), and FRCP.

My special interest is to provide care to older people at risk of falls or have experienced falls previously. I can provide specialist advice for osteoporosis care and to help you minimise the risk of another fragility fracture.

I can also offer bone health assessment in case you have risk-factors like family history of fragility fracture, long term-condition like coeliac disorder, bowel disorders leading to reduced absorption, previous have both ovaries removed or have received hormonal treatment for breast/prostate cancer or taking certain drugs like steroids over longer period.

I have a special interest in osteoporosis care and can offer expert advice and treatment with specialist osteoporosis medications eg anabolic treatment (bone-forming medications). These drugs are intended to prescribe using a ‘treat to target’ approach to build bones.  After the initial course of these drugs, patients need regular follow-up for ‘sequence treatment’ with other osteoporosis drugs over longer period.

How can I provide care as a Geriatrician?

•    Osteoporosis care – supporting people who have had a fragility fracture (wrist, spine, arm, or hip) and helping prevent further fractures.
•    Bone health assessments – checking your bone strength and helping reduce the risk of your first fragility fracture.
•    Falls risk assessments – identifying what may increase your risk of falling as you get older.
•    Support for balance and confidence – creating a personalised plan to improve balance and reduce fear of falling.
•    Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) – a full review of your health, mobility, memory, medications, and day-to-day needs.
•    Management of general medical conditions – such as high blood pressure and other common health issues in later life.
