Excision biopsy of breast lesion after localisation

Where there is a lesion that cannot be easily palpated by the Consultant, the lesion is localised using either ultrasound or mammographic guidance. A fine wire is inserted and lodged either within the lesion or as close to it as possible, to guide the surgeon during surgery.
