Private medical insurance

We welcome patients with private medical insurance.

Use your private medical insurance as it may cover more than you expect and is there when you need it most. Private medical insurance is also known as health insurance and sometimes referred to as PMI.

Health insurance is designed to cover some or all of the costs of your medical treatment. This will depend on the type of health insurance policy you have.

You will need a GP referral, so talk to your doctor, explain that you have private medical insurance and ask to be referred to St Joseph’s Hospital.

St Joseph’s offer a Private GP service where you can be seen the same day or the next day. The doctor can, if appropriate, provide you with a GP referral to a specialist at the appointment.

In order to process your private medical insurance claim we require the following information:

  • provider e.g. BUPA
  • policy/membership number
  • authorisation number
  • expiry date of authorisation
  • maximum treatment budget/appointments
  • value of any personal policy excess
  • any conditions or exclusions

In most cases, costs are agreed in advance and payment of any consultation and treatment will be made directly to us by your medical insurer. In some instances, you may be required to pay for elements of your treatment not covered by your insurance policy.

St Joseph’s is registered with many of the UK’s major providers:
