MSc Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy
Pilates Instructor for Antenatal/Postnatal Pilates (APPI)
I specialise in the treatment of male and female pelvic dysfunctions such as incontinence, prolapse and pain. I also have a specialist interest in the treatment of low back and pelvic pain, specifically in visceral pelvic pains such as Bladder Pain Syndrome, Endometriosis and Chronic Prostatitis.
Before I joined St Joseph’s I worked within the local NHS for eight years, which provided me with a broad treatment experience of a variety of pelvic problems in women and men of all ages. I was also able to spend five years working alongside Dr Wartan in the Chronic Pelvic Pain Multidisciplinary clinic – one of the first of its kind in the UK at that time.
I employ evidence-based physiotherapy skills and knowledge to develop an individualised rehabilitation program and have had excellent results in treating a wide range of complaints from incontinence and pelvic pain, postnatal conditions such as diastasis of the rectus abdominal muscle to relief of low back pain.
I qualified with a first class degree in physiotherapy in 2008 and achieved a first class Master’s Degree in Pelvic Health Physiotherapy in 2017. I recently conducted and published research into physiotherapy treatments for bladder pain syndrome, and continue to be active within the pelvic pain research community. I am also a member of the executive team for the national professional network Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy, and am a peer reviewer for their journal. Throughout the year I run continuing professional development courses for physiotherapists to learn how to treat visceral pelvic pain conditions and am a regular attendee and speaker at national and international conferences.
