MBBS MD MFFP MRCOG
Year of first medical qualification: 1985
I qualified in London in 1985 and originally trained to be a GP in Watford. I quickly left general practice and qualified as a consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology in 1999. I have been a consultant in gynaecology and sexual health in Aneuran Bevan University Health Board since 1999 although I will finally leave the NHS in late 2019.
In 1999 I set up a specialist NHS dedicated menopause clinic from which I retired in 2019. I was the only Menopause Trainer in Wales recognized for training clinicians in menopause care by the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health. We saw about 200 new patients per year, including women with complex medical backgrounds and transgender women.
I give many seminars to gynaecology trainees, GPs and commercial companies on the management of the menopause and contraception, and have appeared on BBC and ITV about the provision of menopause care in Wales. In 2018 I sat on the Welsh Government working group on managing the menopause in the workplace. In 2019 I was a keynote speaker at the first All Wales Menopause Summit in Cardiff.
In my role as Clinical Director for Sexual and Reproductive health from 1999-2007, I modernized and merged care for office gynaecology, contraception, male and female sterilisation, sexually transmitted infection, psychosexual care and youth outreach services into a world-class, training centre for Sexual and Reproductive Health service that the Welsh Government recognises as an exemplar.

I have retired my NHS practice in order to be able to offer specialist menopause care outside Aneuran Bevan Health board catchment area.
I also want to spend more time with my husband and dogs, in my garden and with my 4 Arabian horses to pursue my addiction to endurance horse riding.
Retired Consultant gynaecologist, Aneuran Bevan University health board
My main interest is in whole patient care around the time of the menopause. I am a good listener and have an empowering, empathetic style of doctoring.
I aim to give full, evidence-based information to help my patients understand the menopause and allow them to choose appropriate treatments, based on their preferences, priorities and attitude to risk.
I help an increasing number of survivors of breast cancer who have been unable to find satisfactory help for their menopause symptoms. I liaise with other specialists so that everyone looking after the patient is ‘singing from the same hymn-sheet’.
I look after all aspects of menopause although currently, we are not able to offer hormone implants.
I am passionate about care being both patient centred and evidence based. I have a Diploma in Quality in Healthcare from the University of Utah.
My MD, published in 1994, analysed the factors that make IVF successful. I have over 30 published papers on IVF, contraception and child protection. I am not currently active in research
Charlotte Fleming was very friendly and extremely thorough during the consultation. I felt totally understood and able to make an informed decision with regard to my condition. Her follow up letter to me, with copies to my surgeon and GP, reflected what we had discussed during my appointment and was very helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending her.

I had a hysterectomy and suffered awful symptoms and felt like I was a totally different person. I went back and forth to my gp who was great and tried me on hrt. I carried on for months but symptoms just got worse. My sympathetic doctor referred me to dr Fleming who was fantastic. Finally someone understood what I was going through. After a few consultations and blood tests Dr Fleming suggested to have oestrogen and testosterone implants as my body wasn’t absorbing anything through tablets and gel form. It was quick and surprisingly very little pain in the procedure as it’s done with a local anaesthetic. It took a couple of weeks to notice the benefits but when they kicked in the results was amazing. I’m back to my normal self, everything has improved. I no longer have flushes, moods and brain fog have improved immensely, and my libido has returned much to the joy of myself and my husband lol. I can’t thank dr Fleming and her team enough for the care and treatment I received.
