Professional bio

After graduating from Manchester University in 1995 I have worked in the south Wales region. I have specialised in musculoskeletal physiotherapy since 1999 and developed a further specialism in shoulder conditions. As a member of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society, I was awarded their Allied Health Professions fellowship in 2004 and went on to complete my master’s degree in physiotherapy. As part of the current teaching programme at Cardiff University, I have developed and taught an MSc module for postgraduate physiotherapists and teaching and mentoring other physiotherapists is a major part of my professional role. I am also a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP) and the Extended Scope Practitioner Professional Network (ESPPN).

I combine my role as clinical lead for shoulders at St Joseph’s with my work as a clinical specialist in the NHS, where I treat all musculoskeletal conditions but have become highly specialised in the management of shoulder conditions. Working closely with shoulder surgeons I have led service development focussing on continual evaluation and improvement of the care of patients with shoulder conditions.

This combined approach between surgeon and physiotherapist is fundamental to ensuring the best possible outcome following surgery. I have developed treatment pathways and protocols in close collaboration with the surgical consultants to provide informative guidelines and milestones following shoulder surgery. We are then able to monitor progress and measure outcomes from surgery against national and international standards. This continual reassessment and review of our treatment and interventions means quality of care for patients is the very best it can be.

When I’m not at work I enjoy cooking for friends, and keeping fit by running and hill walking. I also love skiing and surfing and have recently taken up tennis.
