Perform at you best in our well-equipped theatres. St Joseph’s has two operating theatres, an endoscopy suite and is opening a brand new theatre for day case procedures in April 2021. Our two principal theatres are state-of-the-art Laminar Flow theatres capable of supporting complex surgery. A modern purpose-designed third theatre is an endoscopy suite which enables St Joseph’s to be a leading provider of endoscopy services working towards JAG accreditation.

Qualified Nurses trained in working in an operating theatre and recovery
Operating Department Practitioners who have undergone a 2-year training to work in theatres.

A high proportion of operations carried out at St Joseph’s hospital are day cases. This benefits the patients as they can return to their normal home environment as soon as they have recovered from the anaesthetic. The short hospital stay also minimises disruption to their daily routine and to the lives of family and friends.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a range of qualified theatre practitioners to join the team at St Joseph's Hospital.

Qualified Theatre Practitioners

St Joseph’s Hospital is looking for experienced, flexible and forward-thinking Theatre Practitioners to join the theatre team. A dedicated, flexible and committed approach is essential, along with a focused and proactive attitude to the development of the team.

The successful candidates will have experience working in a multi-skilled role and will have exceptional communication skills. Working closely with the senior staff and multi-disciplinary team members, the post holders will take an active role in ensuring the service delivers the highest standards of clinical care.

The post holders will need to be a registered Nurse or ODP, prepared to work across several specialities including Scrub, Anaesthetics, Recovery and Endoscopy and will be willing to undertake competencies in any of the aforementioned.

The post holders will take responsibility for their continuing professional development and will support their fellow team members to develop in line with the theatre department annual training plan.

Duties and responsibilities

Communication skills:

To promote effective communication and strategy within the theatre team.
To liaise with other health care team members in providing and receiving complex and sensitive information.
Maintain accurate documentation of care delivered.
To ensure accurate handover is delivered in theatres, recovery and ward.

Analytical and planning skills:

Demonstrate advocacy and clinical decision-making skills with a degree of autonomy in all aspects of patient care.
To develop a sound evidence base to inform practice.
To assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual patient care within the area of resonsbility.
To make decisions on a variety of competing demands.
To ensure all equipment within the department is in safe working order.

Patient care skills:

To be constantly vigilant to unexpected and changing patient demands.
To participate as a member of the operating department team in assessing planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.
To assist with the organisation of lists ensuring adequate liaison between all team members.
Maintain a safe environment.
Complete additional training to consolidate and develop operating department practice.
