Contact allergy testing

Contact allergy testing is the investigation of allergic contact dermatitis or eczema.  It investigates the possibility of allergy to one or more products in contact with the skin surface causing eczema or dermatitis.  Testing involves applying a large number of products to the skin for 48 hours and attending three times in a week to assess any reactions.  Examples of some of the commoner allergy culprits include nickel, fragrance and preservatives.

Contact allergy testing does not investigate allergic reactions to foods or to medicines.
