Maximising attendance, not just reducing absence.


Our occupational health team at St Joseph's Hospital, conveniently located in south Wales, will work with you to reduce sickness levels and promote employee health and wellbeing with a bespoke strategy specifically designed to effectively use the budget you have in your business. We will work with you to create a unique back to work pathway for those employees who are on sick leave and also assist you to maximise workforce attendance.

 

We use an integrated case management approach to absence management and can recommend fast track services within St Joseph’s to ensure early diagnosis and swift treatment, enabling employees to return to work quicker. If the employee is waiting for an NHS Consultant appointment, physiotherapy, an imaging scan such as CT or MRI, or counselling for example, we can book an appointment without delay to establish a diagnosis and an onward treatment plan which is likely to improve the timescales for an employee's return to work. We will work with you and keep you informed at every stage.

 

We hold regular clinics, and accept ad hoc and urgent appointments. Consultations can take place here at St Joseph’s, in your workplace or over the telephone as a remote consultation.

The CIPD Annual Survey Report 2015 identified that sickness absence costs employers an average of over £600 per employee annually. The most common reasons for absence are acute medical conditions, stress, mental ill health, musculoskeletal injuries and back pain. Health surveillance and fitness for work assessments


From expert urgent care and follow-up of work-related injuries, to a variety of cost-effective screening, surveillance and prevention programmes, we offer a full range of services designed with your business needs in mind.

 

We can provide occupational health services on your site or hold appointments at St Joseph’s Hospital, whichever meets your business requirements. The HSE advise that ‘health surveillance allows for early identification of ill health and helps identify any corrective action needed. Health surveillance may be required by law if your employees are exposed to noise or vibration, solvents, fumes, dusts, biological agents and other substances hazardous to health, or work in compressed air.’

 

We can carry out an initial OH needs assessment and provide you with a written recommendation of your needs. An annual health assessment plan will then be produced and agreed with you.


Rather than routinely testing all employees each year for everything, each employee can be tested as necessary at one appointment and a fit for work certificate issued covering all tasks undertaken by the employee. This avoids the disruption to the business of one employee having several tests done throughout the year.
