I am a consultant Sports Physician experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of sports injuries as well as general orthopaedic and musculoskeletal problems.
I have a Master's degree in Sports Medicine from Bath University and am a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine at Royal Colleges, both in the UK and Ireland. I am regularly involved in teaching in Sports Medicine to medical students, sports physicians, GPs and physiotherapists and am a clinical tutor on the Bath Sports Medicine MSc course and also provide teaching input on the Cardiff Sports Medicine MSc at Cardiff Metropolitan University. I am a college examiner and also examine for the Bath MSc course.
My extensive previous experience in General Practice helps me to provide a holistic management package for patients. Although I regularly treat elite and professional athletes, I am equally at home treating “the person next door” and fully realise that these patients are equally important.
I have recently completed a postgraduate certificate in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. I provide a diagnostic ultrasound service and utilise this skill for guiding a wide variety of injections.
I am also the WRU National Team Doctor. In such environments I am very familiar with multidisciplinary team approach and feel such an approach ultimately enables the patient to get the best treatment. As a Sports Physician, I enjoy such a team approach with other colleagues, including Orthopaedic Surgeons, Radiologists, Physiotherapists and Podiatrists. I look forward to providing such a multidisciplinary approach at St Joseph’s.
Whilst I provide medical care for a wide variety of Sports Injuries and Orthopaedic medical problems, my special interests include groin pain, overuse tendinopathies, as well as all aspects of knee and shoulder injury. I use diagnostic ultrasound as an extension of my clinical assessment where indicated.
